Olympic Sailing in Qingdao

I had last week free; I was going to Shanghai, but thought I should see some Olympic events while I am here. Instead of Shanghai, you guessed it, Qingdao! Qingdao is the host of the 2008 Olympic Sailing events. Little did I know that Shanghai is hosting Olympic soccer. Oh well, I am not a big soccer fan (I'm American....duh). I travelled to Qingdao by bus, and then took a Taxi to Kaiyue International Youth Hostel, where I booked a dorm bed (read bunking with 7 other dudes), and three nights. Then I went down to the bar, and later met some of my dorm mates. Two Englishmen, one Aussie, two Irishmen, an Australian lass, two Chinamen, a Taiwanese, and a Japanese. I was going for consistency there. Forgive me if it sounded offensive. So we all hung out for the few days. The Aussie and the Englishmen and one Taiwanman(Dan the Man, whom is pictured doing cartwheels) and I set out to fetch some tickets, only to find them sold out for the day. Somehow we managed to get some anyways, but it cost us a little more. We tried everything we could to get on a boat to see the sailing, but to no avail. I even tried to hit up an English reporter staying at the hostel to take me on the news boat. No avail.

After a few hours in the sun, we finally got to the Olympic venue and watched some sailing, way off in the distance. We could barely make out the national flags on the boats, but it was still rather exciting. Although the USA didn't do very well. One of the Brits was interviewed for the local news. I took a picture with the Denmark mascot girls, and Dan the man just chilled and looked for good looking women.

And Dan did hand stands...

This is where they make Tsingdao Beer!
...and here we are ordering some beer in plastic grocery bags.

Downtown Qingdao...one part of it. The city is about 3 million people urban-wise.
