Day Five in China

Today was my third class. I taught the same content I taught last time. It was a good class. I am learning to slow down my fast speech. The lesson is becomming more well formed in my mind, and I think I will improve my style as time goes by.

I purchased a DVD player yesterday. I have been really watching my money, buying the cheapest version of things I can find. My DVD player was 225 yuan. It plays DVDs and it also has a usb port for playing avi, windows media, amd mp4 files. Pretty cool. I am trying to take China slow. I know that I could be learning much more day by day. It is going to be a year and a half here at least, and I am currently in a good place, so I think taking it slow is a good idea for now. The major barrier for me is learning the language and learning what chinese know about the United States. I guess that is partly my job: teaching them about my home country.

I am learning more than I am teaching now. There is only one me and many chinese. So I am in a better position to learn about them, than they about me.

Planning lessons is a guessing game for now. That will get better with more experience and practice learning the art of teaching.
