Day Four in Yantai, China

Day Four was my first fully free day. I have only taught one class so far, but I have been busy with other activites during the previous days. So on day four, a fellow foreign teacher and I took the bus all around downtown. We went to the groecery store, the markets, the shopping mall, and some very interesting stores.

Here are some photos of the restaurants. One of them is in the mall, and it was par excellent. I ordered the oyster/seaweed/noodle bowl, and an Asahi beer. My fellow teacher ordered the same dish, and we also had some icecream for dessert: total price for both of our meals 95 yuan, or $13.35 US.

The second restaurant had a train that went around the tables and delivered ingredients for what is known as a hot pot. There is litterally a cooktop on your table, where you add ingredients to a bowl of boilding broth. The service was great, with two waitresses doing everything from unwrapping our ingredients to spooning food from the hot pot onto our plates. We ate until we were full. Total cost: 63 yuan: $8.85 US.

The most amazing thing about the food here is the taste and variety. I loved the oyster noodle bowl. It was delicious. You can find just about anything, from vendors on the street, to restaurants in the mall, to stores in their own buildings. Each one has a different flavor and style. They even have a McDonalds and a KFC here, as I am sure you have already heard.
