Day 30 in Yantai

So, yesterday I met a Chinese 19 year old. He helped me do some negotiating at a local market, when he heard my difficulty in negotiating the prices for some hard drives. He asked whether I needed some help. I said yes, and he helped me to figure out the prices. Then we went and looked at some other stuff at a store where he knew the owner. He explained that he was from Yantai, and was back for vacation.

He is currently studying near London, and will be going for a Masters degree in the UK near London afterwards. He is interested in international business. I told him about myself, why I am in Yantai, and so on. He invited me to go out to dinner with him tonight. We went to a western restaurant called Jackie's. It was very authentic western food. They have hamburgers, fajitas, fish and chips, and many other western dishes. His mom came with him, and I met them at Jackie's. I had a cheeseburger and some Tsingtsao beer, and he ordered an extra order of fajitas for the table. It was really good.

Apparently his mom, spent about 1,000,000 Yuan paying for his undergraduate degree. Woah. He is very well spoken. It's funny though he has a British accent. Noone had ever told him that. He thought his accent was American. When I told him that indeed the British accent was apparent, he was surprised and a little dissapointed. The restaurant was full of foreigners. We sat down at the bar after dinner, and as we were discussing accents, and Australian, who has been living in Yantai for 8 years butted in that it is ironic to hear an American speaking about Australian and English accents. I was having a good time. The Aussie said he knew many Texans and that they were all very large men, so I revealed my 105 Kilo current weight. He agreed that I am big, like other Texans.

So, Allen (My Chinese UK Business student friend) and I are going to stay in contact. When he gets back froms school this summer, we will hang out. Perhpas, I can convince him to show me around Beijing.
