What good is knowing the text of the law if you can only recite what someone else wrote? You may ask yourself whether this is a question worth answering. My days of formally learning are formally over, when it comes to law.
What do my students need to learn? They aren't going to get any use out of knowing all of the international statutes and treaties; not yet. Nor will any single written law, or even all the written laws, satisfy the fundamental knowledge of international law. It has come to my attention, the fundamental knowledge of global exchange and travel is based on expectations of a full enjoyment of life: Life, Liberty, and Happiness.
Class has been dragging in some areas. I have not quite figured out why, or exactly what is causing the difficulty. The students seem to understand what I am saying, but are having trouble expressing themselves. There are some things students would rather not yet think about. A global world is a small priority for someone who is still discovering their country. This discovery, that theirs is a global country, is an opportunity for them, and an imperative for me.
