Today, I was pickpocketed. I had been warned: "Watch out for pickpocketers on the bus!" Well, today, as I was getting on the bus, to make it to a Comm. Party Convention with a student, I felt someone puch up against my back. I am used to this as the people waiting for the bus often push and shove ot get on first. I thought nothing of it until I sat down, and I didn't feel that uncomfortable lump in my back pocket: my wallet! Ghasp, I leaped to my feet, made the bus driver stop and ran out of the bus. John, my student followed suit. I told him: "dammit my wallets missing, I just got pickpocketed." He was like "no way, man didn't I tell you to watch it." He did. So I looked around and noone familiar was still at the bus stop. I saw several people just kind of lurking, and I thought oh they'll be back. So I set up an observation point just far enough away from the bus stop. I watched for suspicious activity. I wasn't too worried because I didn't have much money in my wallet, just $25 dollars worth of Yuan: 180 元. So, that is gone, and so are my bank card and credit card. I made a police report, and called the bank and the CC company, reporting stolen cards, so no worries there. Sadly I had to miss the Comm. Party Meeting. I wanted to go and see what they talked about. Fortunately, all of my really important documents are at home: Passport, Visa, Residency Permit: So, I am safe as that goes. I was using my pocket wallet, laziness, I will be using my travel wallet with restraining strap from now on.
The loss was not that bad, I emphasize. I only lost about 25 dollars. I can live without my bank card or credit card until I get a new one from the card companies. Also, I get paid tomorrow, for tutoring, and then again on Tuesday for teaching. So, no worries need be had for me.
