This is a watercolor painting my friend and student Zhuang Hong Zhe brought me back from his home town. It is a very beautiful rice paper mounted on waxed cloth, and between two scroll rods. It is hand painted, and individually signed and stamped by the artist. You can see there are two birds on a tree limb near a blooming tree. I called him for some advice the other day, and he was like: "Hey I bought you one of those nice paintings I told you about, when can I come over and give it to you." I was like: "I am free now, come on over." And you can see my water cooler over here, and my front door over there, with winter coats hanging from it.

The other picture is my friend and fellow teacher at Lu Dong. I don't know his Chinese name, but he is very kind to me. He has given me fine tea and fine tobacco cigarettes every time I come to the office. He likes it when I come to the office 20 minutes before class so we can discuss culture and politics with the help of Hong Zhe. In this picture he is showing me the painting in the office, which looks very expensive. Those are bamboo slats painted with bulls and framed by rice paper covered with calligraphy lettering.
